Dear Parents/Carers,

Firstly I would like to welcome you back to Aquila Class after the Christmas holidays. I hope you have had a lovely time with your families and I would like to wish you a very happy new year.

Classroom Staff

Class Teacher: Mr N. Jones

Student Teacher: Miss C. Hardman

Teaching Assistant: Mrs D. Taylor

French Teaching: Mrs H. Twigg

I have attached an updated timetable to this letter, there are a few changes so please feel free to have a browse and again if you have any concerns please let me know.

The children will continue to receive homework on a Friday. Thank you for all your support so far with this we’ve had nearly 100% returned every week. Well done and keep it up!

Throughout this half term our school topic will be “Police, Camera, Action” (see attached sheet). We will be focusing on Crime and Punishment throughout British History as well as mechanical and electrical components in DT.

General Reminders…

  • Any letters or reply slips, which need to be returned, can be put in your child’s school bag. The children are encouraged to check them each morning and give things in before the register.
  • The children will have access to a class set of cups, for water, throughout the day however if they wish to have their own water bottle to keep in class which they can access throughout the day they are welcome. Please make sure your child’s name is written clearly on their water bottle.
  • School starts at 8:55am. Please ensure the children are in by then as they will have an opportunity to complete maths, reading, times tables and SPAG activities before registration.
  • At the end of the school day (3:15pm) the children will wait in the area inside the gate. They may not leave until they see who is collecting them, and strictly must not leave through the gate until they do so.

Your child will continue to be given reading book either from the school library or from the reading schemes. They will also be given a reading diary to bring home and fill in to document their reading both at school and at home. These will be checked throughout the week. You should aim to read every night if possible. A useful website for free books to read on tablets is: (Please ensure the children use the internet safely).

Children click ‘my class log in’ then:

Your child will continue to have spellings twice a week appropriate to their current ability. Your support in helping the children learn these rules will be greatly appreciated and will ultimately improve their writing and prepare them for future years. During the year they will also receive common words to learn. These will mainly be posted on ClassDojo so please look regularly.

The children will be learning about ‘Stories with Historical Settings’ throughout this half term.

Throughout the term the children will be working on a range of mathematical concepts including multiplication, division, area and perimeter. If you could continue to support them as much as possible to learn their times tables and corresponding divisions by practising at home I believe the children can continue to achieve great things this year.

Useful websites are:

The children will be doing PE on Wednesdays and Fridays. We will going Swimming on Friday afternoons beginning on Friday 12th January so please ensure your child has their swimming kit for then. Please ensure all items are clearly labelled

·         Towel, swimming costume/trunks (Bermuda shorts are NOT allowed)

·         Cap for any hair longer than shoulder length and a suitable bag to carry wet items.

·         The Lancashire County Swimming Code of Practice strongly discourages the wearing of goggles. However, if your child needs to wear goggles during swimming lessons, please send the signed written request form back to school. They will not be allowed to wear them without consent.

Winmarleigh is quickly approaching. Please ensure that all relevant payments are made to the office as soon as possible. On Tuesday 6th February 2018 I will be holding a parents meeting regarding our visit. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm.

I would again like to thank you in advance for all your support this term and if you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me on ClassDojo or come in and see me, I look forward to seeing you all at the ‘Parent Consultations’ event on Tuesday 9th January 2018.

  Kindest regards,

Mr N. Jones
