Dear Parents/Carers,

Firstly I would like to welcome you back to Aquila Class after the half term break. I hope you have had a lovely time with your families and made the most of the beautiful weather.

Classroom Staff

Class Teacher: Mr N. Jones

Teaching Assistant: Mrs D. Taylor

PPA Teaching: Mrs H. Twigg

I have attached an updated timetable to this letter, there are a few changes so please feel free to have a browse and again if you have any concerns please let me know.

The children will continue to receive homework on a Friday. Thank you for all your support completing these.

Throughout this half term our school topic will be “Up, up and away” (see attached sheet). We will be focusing on local geography and catching up on any units missed during the year.

General Reminders…

  • Any letters or reply slips, which need to be returned, can be put in your child’s school bag. The children are encouraged to check them each morning and give things in before the register.
  • The children will have access to a class set of cups, for water, throughout the day however if they wish to have their own water bottle to keep in class which they can access throughout the day they are welcome. Please make sure your child’s name is written clearly on their water bottle.
  • School starts at 8:55am. Please ensure the children are in by then as they will have an opportunity to complete maths, reading, times tables and SPAG activities before registration.
  • At the end of the school day (3:15pm) the children will wait in the area inside the gate. They may not leave until they see who is collecting them, and strictly must not leave through the gate until they do so.

Your child will continue to be given reading book either from the school library or from the reading schemes. They will also be given a reading diary to bring home and fill in to document their reading both at school and at home. The children will be responsible for changing their books so please encourage them to do so as well as bring their books to and from school each day.

Your child will continue to have spellings twice a week appropriate to their current ability. Your support in helping the children learn these rules will be greatly appreciated and will ultimately improve their writing and prepare them for future years. During the year they will also receive common words to learn. These will mainly be posted on ClassDojo so please look regularly.

The children will be learning about non-chronological reports and stories from other cultures throughout this half term. Our class reader will be “Kick” by the author Mitch Johnson.

Throughout the term the children will be working on a range of mathematical concepts including shapes, position and direction, converting units, prime numbers, area and perimeter and volume. If you could continue to support them as much as possible to learn their times tables and corresponding divisions by practising at home I believe the children can continue to achieve great things this year. Useful websites are:

The children will be doing PE on Tuesday and Wednesdays. Please ensure they have their full kit in school. This can include trainers for use on the field.

Sports Day & Family Fun Evening

Please remember that we will be hosting our sports day on Friday 8th June followed by our family fun evening. Sports day will begin at 10am for KS2 and 1:30pm for KS1. All the children we be on the field at lunchtime. Any adults wishing to stay are welcome too and can purchase food from our bbq. The family fun evening will begin at 3pm.

I would again like to thank you in advance for all your support this term and if you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me on ClassDojo or come in and see me, I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Kindest regards,

Mr N. Jones
